Swan 53 Race Crew Organization
Racing in-shore requires specialist Crew to decide on Race Strategy and Tactics, whilst others perform the physical work of Sail handling. When Racing fully manned with 16 Sailors, in medium to heavy Wind and Sea conditions, ‘Who Dares Wins’ allocates Crew to the following roles, listed from Bow to Stern.
However many crew available, the Yacht has to perform a number of maneuvers, determined by the Race Course itself and the influence of the Wind and Sea.
It would be easier, if all we had to do, was get around the course, safely. But with inshore Racing, other Boats are trying to do the same as us, at the same time and in the same space. They are even trying to beat us, to the finish line.
Some of the racing team decide Strategy and Tactics, whilst others perform the physical work of Sail handling. Ian Kennedy
